Section 1 — Short title, extent and commencement.

(1) This Act may be called the Police Act, 1949.

(2) It extends to all the Union territories.

(3) It shall come into force in a Union territory on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint in this behalf for such territory.
