What is a Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT)?
A Debt Recovery Tribunal is a specialised forum created under the Recovery of Debts and Bankruptcy Act, 1993 so that banks and notified financial institutions can recover dues without a full civil suit. The DRT has jurisdiction only where the debt claimed is above Rs 20 lakh; smaller claims still go to ordinary civil courts. Banks file an Original Application (OA). Borrowers and guarantors challenge SARFAESI enforcement by filing a Securitisation Application (SA). Appeals go to the Debts Recovery Appellate Tribunal (DRAT), usually with a pre-deposit. How to check a DRT case online.
DRT is not on ecourts.gov.in. Use the Ministry of Finance DRT portal, then optionally hand the file to NyayX if it is a Delhi matter.

Open the DRT portal
Go to drt.gov.in and choose the tribunal (for Delhi matters, DRT Delhi). Searching the wrong bench returns a blank page even when the file exists.

Search by OA or SA number
DRT case numbers are digits tied to the application type and year. Diary number works when the formal number is not yet allotted. Party name is slower and less precise.
Step 3
Read the next date
Adjournments are common. The next date of hearing is the field advocates actually need. Confirm it on the sitting day against the tribunal's own list if an urgent application was moved.
Step 4
Track DRT Delhi in NyayX
If the matter is before DRT Delhi, add the case number in NyayX. Hearing reminders go out on WhatsApp. Other city DRTs can be kept as manual dates in the same diary until live sync exists for that bench.
What is the difference between a DRT OA and an SA?
An Original Application is the bank's or financial institution's case to recover a debt above the statutory threshold. If the tribunal allows it, a recovery certificate follows and a Recovery Officer enforces it. A Securitisation Application is the borrower's or guarantor's challenge to SARFAESI action: possession, sale, or appointment of a receiver. Time limits on SAs are short. The same advocate often runs an SA at DRT and a writ at the Delhi High Court on the same loan.
