How do I check Supreme Court case status online?

Open the Supreme Court of India case status page at sci.gov.in. Search by diary number if the matter is newly filed, or by case type, number and year once the registry has converted the diary into a numbered case such as SLP (C) 1234 of 2026. The result shows the current status, the last listed date, the next date if one is fixed, and the bench. District-court CNR search does not apply here: SCI uses its own diary and case-number system. If the portal says status is not available, the diary may not yet be converted, or the listing may still be on the miscellaneous board. NyayX pulls the same SCI record up to four times a day, so you do not repeat this lookup for every pending SLP.

On the official portal

Four ways to pull an SCI matter.

The official portal is the source of truth. Use it when you need a one-off check. Use NyayX when you have a roster of pending SLPs and writs.

  1. Step 1

    By diary number

Every fresh filing at the Supreme Court first gets a diary number. Until the registry converts it, this is the only handle that works. Enter the diary number and year. NyayX accepts the same diary number so you can start tracking before the case number is allotted.

  2. Step 2

    By case number

Once converted, search by case type (SLP Civil, SLP Criminal, Writ Petition, Civil Appeal, Transfer Petition), the number, and the year. The type abbreviation must match the registry exactly or the search returns nothing.

  3. Step 3

    Read the status field

Pending, disposed, and listed are the usual states. CL on an SCI record means the matter is on a cause list for that date. Listed on the miscellaneous board is not the same as a regular hearing: check the court number and item number before you travel.

  4. Step 4

    Confirm against the cause list

Status and listing can diverge for a few hours after a mention or after a matter is deleted. Cross-check the daily cause list for the court number. NyayX does this on every sync and WhatsApps you only when your item is actually listed.

Why is Supreme Court case status not available?

The most common reason is timing. A diary filed today often cannot be searched as a case number until the registry converts it, which can take days. A mention that was taken up in the morning may still show yesterday's next date until the next update cycle. Another cause is searching the wrong portal: ecourts.gov.in covers high courts and district courts, not the Supreme Court. Use sci.gov.in for SCI. If you have the diary number and year correct and still see nothing, the filing may be defective or not yet entered. NyayX will keep retrying the official record; when the status appears, the case card updates without you checking again.

Supreme Court case status, in short

Can I check Supreme Court case status by diary number?
Yes. Diary number plus year is the search that works before a case number is allotted. NyayX stores that diary number and follows the matter through conversion into an SLP, writ, or appeal.
Does eCourts show Supreme Court case status?
No. ecourts.gov.in is for high courts and district courts. SCI has its own portal. See also how eCourts case status works for High Court and district matters, and how to read the SCI cause list.
What does CL mean in Supreme Court case status?
CL means the matter is on a cause list for that sitting. Confirm the court number and item number on the list itself before treating it as a listed hearing.
Does NyayX track Supreme Court case status automatically?
Yes, for cases you add. Coverage and the product workflow are on the Supreme Court tracker. NyayX also syncs Delhi High Court, Delhi district courts, and DRT Delhi in the same diary.
